I was up at sunrise and led a few of the guys (Benji Weatherly, Adam Blakey, Seth Stafford) down the beach for a surf check.
The swell was smallish in Coffee Bay but I knew of an awesome point break only a 30 minute drive North from Coffee Bay.
We threw our stuff in the cars and decided to check the point before heading South to J-Bay.
The roads are pretty rough and on the way there my car had a blow out. Immediately the guys jumped on the job and began changing the wheel! I was so impressed that no one complained and everyone worked together as a team to sort out the car in a matter of minutes.
We got to the point and found beautiful clean 4ft waves. The setup of this point is you hardly need to paddle. You walk to the end of the point, jump off the rocks and catch a wave all the way through to the beach break where you get out and walk back down the point. It's like having a ski lift. Luxury / lazy surfing at it's best!
We surfed for a few hours in warm water and super fun conditions. During this time Donovan "Donny" Frankenreiter and Nathan "Noodles" Webster gave a surfing lesson to some local kids who actually managed o stand up and ride all the way to the beach! Donny decided that the gift of surfing is the best gift that anyone could ever give and he gave a beautiful yellow "batwing" tail surfboard to the kids. I'm pretty sure that any surfer who sees the kids with that amazing board would offer them a couple of sweets and some cash and score the deal of a lifetime!
We packed all our stuff back into the cars and hit the long road to J-Bay! The whole way there we were getting text messages informing us the surf was getting better and better!
